You Worked How Many Hours? Liars, People overstate the number of weekly hours they “usually” work by five to ten percent, with those on the higher end doing so the most. John P. Robinson of the University of Maryland and his colleagues examined U.S. workers’ time diaries and discovered that people who say they usually work 55 to 64 hours tend to be off by about 10 hours and those who claim to work 65 to 74 hours tend to overstate by about 20 hours.
